Successes and Barriers in the Urban Agriculture Strategy of London, Ontario

Webinar - Successes and Barriers in the Urban Agriculture Strategy of London, Ontario

As part of its 2025–2026 programming, AU/LAB’s Rendez-vous AgriUrbains series presents an English-language webinar focused on the evolution of urban agriculture in mid-sized Canadian cities.

Titled Growing Pains: Successes and Barriers in the Urban Agriculture Strategy of London, Ontario, this webinar will share the results of a research project examining how municipal policy, socio-economic pressures, and community capacity are reshaping urban agriculture in London, Ontario.

Based on primary research conducted with urban agriculture practitioners and community members, the study explores the changing landscape of urban agriculture in the city, highlighting the diversity of goals pursued by local initiatives, their successes, and the barriers they face. Particular attention is given to the impacts of policy changes following the adoption of London’s Urban Agriculture Strategy in 2017 (approved in 2019), and how these shifts have influenced implementation on the ground.

This webinar will offer valuable insights for researchers, municipalities, and practitioners interested in the role of public policy in supporting — or constraining — urban agriculture initiatives in comparable contexts.
